We have all heard those quotes about smiling – “If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours”; “Use your smile to change the world, don’t let the world change your smile”, and so on. You hear it so much that it has become a cliché. However, I recently experienced something that despite all of that, made me “a believer” too.
I have a favorite cafeteria that I love to go to. The environment is good for working, the service and interior are great and it has the best cakes!!! I have been there so many times that the waitresses already know what I’m going to order before I actually do.
So, the other day I was standing in line waiting to pay my bill and debating with myself whether I should get one more cake to go or not. Truly a dilemma considering how many cakes I had already had.
An older man was standing in front of me. I didn’t know him, but you know how some people look familiar somehow? I guess I was just staring at him wondering if I knew him from somewhere when our eyes met. I smiled at him and he smiled back. The guy paid his bill and went out the door. I didn’t think about it any longer and kept waiting for my turn.
Suddenly, I felt someone touching my shoulder. I turned around and it was the same guy saying: “Thank you so much”. I could not be more confused. For what??? I didn’t pay his bill, I hadn’t even paid for my own yet. Seeing my confusion, he specified: ‘’Thank you for your sincere and beautiful smile. It really made my day”.
That guy actually came back to the cafeteria to thank me for smiling at him. Can you believe it? I sure couldn’t, I was completely blown away by this. Not to mention, he had just made my day too!!!
So, my recommendation for today would be:
SMILE! Just smile! It’s as simple as that.
You have a beautiful smile, let the world enjoy it, and remember to enjoy it yourself! Give yourself the biggest beauty pageant smile you have first thing in the morning, and you’ll see how it will change your whole day. When your eyes meet with someone, give them the nicest smile you have, and see what happens! Smile at strangers. Smile at your loved ones. Smile at your kids. Smile at your husband. Smile to your gifts in life and above all, smile to your challenges. It’ll give you the strength you need to overcome them.
There really is no cheaper or easier way to make someone’s day, and yours too.
So keep smiling and let me know how did this little experiment work out for you!
You know the best time to act is now, right?
So, while you already have this post opened, take a couple of minutes to think about the following questions, answer them and have them sent to your email so you can go over them any time you want.
Your writing will not be saved anywhere and is only for you to use.
Science has shown that the mere act of smiling can lift your mood, lower stress, boost your immune system, and possibly even prolong your life.
